I've been tagged by Soosan!
Here are 6 weird things about me:
1) I am a neat freak. I like things perfectly flush, lined up, at 90 degrees and centered, where applicable.
2) I relish writing and sending real Christmas cards. I plan to make them (knit? cross stitch? quilt?) for 2008. In fact, I plan Christmas cards really early; sometimes, I start writing them in September!
3) Coffee makes me feel more sick than alcohol ever has. I almost threw up after having a yummy cup of expensive mocha coffee.
4) When I play mahjong, circles/dots are my favorite. I seem to always gravitate towards collecting these tiles.
5) Sometimes when I see disgustingly naughty kids running around public spaces, I have a very strong urge to stick my foot out and trip them. Muuuaaahaaaaaa!!
6) I still sleep with a teddy bear.
I think most people have already been tagged so I give up!
Just in case I don't have a chance to write, Happy New Year!!
My 2007 NY resolutions (in bold, so I won't forget):
I WILL NOT BUY ANY YARN IN 2007!!!!!
I WILL NOT BUY ANY MORE FABRIC FOR NEW PROJECTS.
I WILL FINISH MY CROSS STITCH DEBUT.
Happy New Year!!

Back from London and Paris!!!
The weather was beautiful and the Rowan yarns at Liberty were even more gorgeous. Although there was no Liberty sale, I still picked up a few magazines, 5 balls of KidSilkHaze (much cheaper than here) and a 5 balls of Cotton Braid for a simple top.
Photos to follow in the next post (camera still needs to down/up load 500+ travel photos!!!)...
In the meantime, here is some information about me for Soctoberfest.
* When did you start making socks?
~ July 2005, when I first arrived in Toronto and was homeless & jobless.
* Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class?
~ I taught myself to knit socks from a pattern: a free pattern from Patons for their Kroy socks yarn. Unfortunately, the Patons website seems to have stopped linking the pattern for free. :( (NOTE: This pattern can be found here.)
* What was your first pair? How have they "held up" over time?
~ From a jacquard Confetti DGB yarn. I didn't and still don't like the jacquard pattern at all - instead I prefer stripes, blotches or just plain sock yarn. Being a rare-swatcher and insisting on substituting yarn, the sock was very loose... and I now use it to keep my feet moisurized after at-home-foot-spas.
* What would you have done differently?
~ I would either use the recommended yarn or use smaller DPNs.
* What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?
~ So far, I've been cheap with sock yarns. Have only worked with Confetti DGB yarn (can't remember!), Patons Kroy (still love the colors) and Sheepjes Invicta Extra (pretty heather colors but splits easily).
* Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method?
~ Have only knit and used DPNs... seems too much hassle to buy 2 circulars of the same size and the method looks complicated!
* Which kind of heel do you prefer? (flap? or short-row?)
~ I like the flap heel from the Patons books. The slip stitches create a tougher fabric more suitable for a heel.
* How many pairs have you made?
~ Three. Spa socks for myself, one pair for mommy and one pair for daddy.
Many half done socks all over the place - one Baudelaire sock originally for Sister B (but too small so tossed aside), half a Sister C sock (tossed aside) and half a simple sock in the wrong color (hence, tossed aside). Now working on Sister B sock. Hopefully, first Sister B sock will be ready for the next post!

Meme
I've been tagged by Yuvee (sorry, just realized this!):
Ten Years Ago
1995 - I was in university, worked part-time at a bank and knitted feverishly. Other than that, everything else is a blur.
Five Years Ago
2000 - My first dab at joining an online community; I met many of my close friends in HK that year. Shortly after, I went through a major change in my life (quarter life crisis?!) - quit the job, cut some ties and being lost & confused, I took a sabbatical in Vancouver for 3 months before getting back into "life". I do not regret giving up what then seemed like "stability" for a road of uncertainty.
One Year Ago
2004 - Me me me!!! Started knitted again, took painting and drawing courses, travelled to Sydney/Beijing/Toronto, plotted to move back to Canada after spending 7+ years in HK. Could it be the seven years itch?
Five Snacks
I love food so it's really difficult to narrow it down to 5 things, but these popped into my mind first:
- Doritos
- Dried squid (but gives you bad breath!)
- Preserved sour plums (wah mui)
- Chicken wings
- Hong Kong doughy siu mai from the street
Five Songs I Know All The Words To
- More than Words - Extreme
- That's Why (You Go Away) - Michael Learns to Rock
- Close to You - Carpenters
- Crazy for You - Madonna
- Baby Hit Me One More Time - Britney Spears (don't ask)
Five Things I'd Do With 100 Million Bucks
- Accumulate property(it's a Chinese thing)
- Help my family accumulate property (it's another Chinese thing)
- Treat my family to a long, extravagant vacation in Europe
- Open a yarn/bead/crafts /art supplies/photo developing shop (any one of the above or all of the above!! Basically somewhere where I can sit on my butt and do something I love)
- Help unfortunate children
Five Places I'd Run Away To
- London
- Paris
- Peru
- India
- Greece
Five Things I Would Never Wear
- Black/red bra with white tee-shirt
- Hot pants
- Bikini
- Grunge-looking clothes
- Fur
Five TV Shows
- CSI (I love Grissom!!)
- Las Vegas
- America's Top Model (love those cat fights)
- Anything and everything on HGTV
- Ally McBeal & Sex and the City (both in 5th place since they are oldies)
Five Joys
- Friends & family

- Needles (knitting)
- Fantisizing about the perfect home
Five Things To Do, Just For Me, Before I Die
- Travel to every major city in the world

Tagged
The weather is hot hot hot! Not much knitting going on as everything's really sweaty and gross (me included, of course). I've started the Fuschia Clutch but the heat has made me put this project on hold... for now.
I've been tagged by Joy for the book meme. Here it goes...
Total number of books in your house
About a hundred or so. I've only really started "collecting" books in HK, which is silly because they cost almost 100% more than they do at home.
The last book you bought was
I like buying books in bunches. The last books I bought were Unbearable Lightness of Being - Milan Kundera and He's Just Not that Into You - Greg Behrendt, Liz Tuccillo. OK, I know the latter one is not very cerebral but I just HAD TO see what all the fuss and hype was about. :)
The last book you read was
Haven't been reading in the last few months... I think it was The Time Traveller's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger. Such a page turner that I was up 2 nights trying to finish it. It made me ponder: is our future pre-destined or can our decisions/choices change it?
5(or 6) books you often read or meant a lot to you
The Little Prince - Antoine de Saint-Exupery
- I rarely read novels more than once but this is my all time favorite. Short, simple, sweet illustrations and every time I read it, I learn something thought-provokingly new...
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austin
- The ultimate love story where first impressions confuse. Who doesn't love Mr. Darcy?
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time - Mark Haddon
- A refreshing novel looking at the world through the eyes of a mathematically brilliant but autistic child.
White Teeth - Zadie Smith
- Shows how families are intertwined, and how history and the future are intertwined.
Harry Potter Series - JK Rowling
- How can I resist? So many hidden secrets and surprises. Everytime a new HP book or HP movie comes out, I have to re-read the entire series.
Who are you going to pass this to and why?:
No obligation, just if you are interested. Yuvee , Miss Twiss , Knitting for Boozehags.
